Job Overview: Senior Scientist-II (Analytical R&D Laboratory, USP-India)
This supervisory role is based in USP-India’s Analytical Research & Development Laboratory. The Senior Scientist-II will be responsible for isolating and purifying known and unknown impurities and compounds using preparative HPLC. The role also involves characterizing molecules through various analytical techniques and developing analytical methods for in-process samples from the synthetic laboratory. Additionally, the candidate will oversee purification processes, analytical testing, laboratory safety, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), stability studies, and research projects within the analytical department.

Key Responsibilities:

[50%] Oversee the isolation and purification of impurities and compounds via preparative HPLC, reviewing analytical reports in alignment with monographs and in-house procedures. Prepare development reports for synthetic support projects (USP-NF and PAI), participate in project approvals, coordinate with procurement teams, and manage timelines for ARD projects.

[20%] Ensure timely calibration of laboratory equipment and execute IQ/OQ/PQ for new instruments. Procure necessary glassware, chemicals, and columns for ARD projects. Maintain GLP standards and enforce safety procedures while working in the laboratory. Support synthetic R&D projects by delivering timely results through open-access instruments.

[20%] Contribute to safety initiatives impacting all USP laboratory personnel, participate in cross-functional teams, and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the ARD lab. Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to implement corrective actions and oversee internal and compliance audits (ISO-9001 & ISO-17025).

Qualifications and Experience Required:
- MSc in Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or M. Pharm with 13-15 years of experience in Analytical R&D, or Ph.D. with 10-13 years of relevant experience.
- Hands-on expertise in chemical methods and operation of instruments such as preparative HPLC and HPLC.
- Proficiency in HPLC and Prep HPLC method development, with a fundamental understanding of analytical techniques like LCMS, GCMS, FTIR, UV-Visible Spectroscopy, and NMR.
- Experience in process analytical chemistry, analytical testing, and development within a GMP/GLP-compliant environment.
- Strong understanding of synthetic organic chemistry and analytical processes.
- Effective communication skills for collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Familiarity with electronic notebook documentation of experiments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proven track record of technical accomplishments.
- Excellent technical writing and verbal communication abilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment.
- Knowledge of GMP and ISO-IEC 17025 guidelines.
Preferred Skills & Additional Expertise:
- Experience with XRD, TGA, DSC, IC, and ICP-MS is advantageous.
- Familiarity with general chapters, ELN, Empower, and NuGenesis.
- Proficiency in evaluating and interpreting analytical data.
- Ability to multitask and efficiently troubleshoot technical challenges.
- Commitment to delivering high-quality work within deadlines.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This role includes direct supervision of three team members.
